Leaving home, starting college, and going through recruitment all at once can be quite the whirlwind of excitement. However, it wasn’t that long ago that we were right where you are today. Here are some tips to keep in mind while you are looking for the girls that will make Gainesville your new home:

[if !supportLists]● [endif]Be yourself! After all, there is no one better at being you...than you.

Don’t worry about how other women around you act, your main focus should be on your own personal experience. You should not feel that you need to change for others because the women that love you for who you are, will be the ones that become your best friends. The right chapter for you, will see you for who you are! Follow your heart and what you feel deep down.

[if !supportLists]● [endif]Stay open-minded.

Walk into every chapter, each day with an open mind. Greek life at the University of Florida is an amazing experience and each chapter has incredible things to offer. No matter where your specific journey during recruitment takes you, there will be many opportunities for you to grow as a person as well as form life-long friendships.

[if !supportLists]● [endif]Listen to your instincts, no one else’s.

You are the one that will be living with you decision for the years to come, so to make sure you are happy in your heart. You have the potential to find a group of women will become your future bridesmaids and best friends, keep that in mind when you are thinking about your decision. If you are stuck between chapters, think about which one you couldn’t run past on Bid Day; that is the chapter that is right for you!

[if !supportLists]● [endif]The women to look for...

...will be those that you can see yourself calling in 10 years at 2 a.m. if you needed them, not just those that you want to like you. Look for the chapter that will be a place that you can call home, where you won’t feel judged or feel like you need to be someone you aren’t. The home to look for is where you feel comfortable being your authentic self the second you walk in the front doors.

[if !supportLists]● [endif]The connections you make in college are important.

While academics and leadership are important, so are the connections you make with people. During these 4 years, it is important to find your home. This is the time to form relationships and memories that will stay with you for many years to come. Aim to find the group of individuals that you feel may bring out the best in you and inspiring you to be the best you. Think about the type of women that you would want to beside you through it all -- whether it be joining a new club, traveling the world, or even just ordering an XL pizza on a Saturday night. Most importantly, think about the women who will lift you up and encourage you throughout everything you do!

[if !supportLists]● These years will be gone before you know it.

Each woman you talk to during recruitment will completely understand the emotions you are feeling during this process. Do your best to not to let your nerves get the best of you.. trust me, we are just as nervous as you! Do your best to let your true personality shine through to each woman you talk to. This will help you find a place that you will feel the most comfortable beyond the week of recruitment. These upcoming years will hold some of the best memories of your lifetime. The real world will come in the blink of an eye and you will want to look back and reminisce on all the amazing times you had with your best friends.
